The name is originally a hydronym that was transferred to the adjacent settlement. It is derived from the Middle High German compound ''Rosbach'' (from ''ros'' 'horse' + ''bach'' 'creek').〔Snoj, Marko. 2009. ''Etimološki slovar slovenskih zemljepisnih imen''.
